When Bin County was first established during the Qin Dynasty, it was called Qi County (simplified Chinese: 漆县; traditional Chinese: 漆縣; pinyin: Qī Xiàn). Later, the name was changed to Bin County (simplified Chinese: 邠县; traditional Chinese: 邠縣; pinyin: Bīn Xiàn). In 1964, the name was changed once more, into its current form.
Bin County, Shaanxi, may or may not be the area in which Gongliu of Zhou, the Zhou Dynasty ancestor, and his people settled.
Bin County holds jurisdiction over eight towns and eight townships.
